Our mission, our history, our people
The Manual African Student Association exists to celebrate African heritage and reach out to students who identify as African, while welcoming everyone who wants to learn about African culture. Our main goal is outreach — connecting students with their roots and sharing the richness of African traditions with the entire Manual community.
ASA collaborates with university chapters at Bellarmine University and the University of Louisville, holding joint meetings where members share experiences and build connections that extend beyond high school.
We envision a school community where African cultures are known, understood, and celebrated — where every student with African heritage feels proud of their roots and every ally feels empowered to learn and grow.
Through cultural events, educational programming, community service, and social connection, ASA strives to be a model for how student organizations can uplift underrepresented voices while bringing an entire community together.
Everyone! ASA is open to all Manual students — whether you have African heritage, African-American roots, or are simply interested in learning about African cultures. Our strength lies in our diversity and our shared commitment to cultural understanding. All you need is curiosity and an open heart.
“It takes a village to raise a child.”
— Igbo and Yoruba proverb
